Friday's Regaining the Power of the Dollar
There is a Big Difference Between Being Frugal and Cheap
When it comes to money, you could say that I’m a Frugalista. You may be asking, what in the world is a frugalista? A frugalista is a very frugal person.
And let me be clear in saying that there’s a big difference between being frugal and cheap.
Being frugal does not mean that you are a cheapskate. It just means you are more conscious in how you spend your money.

Thursday's Regaining the Power of the Dollar
As with anything we must use our own judgment to determine whether something is worth replacing. For example, do the costs outweigh the benefits?
Be frugal and when it’s broken, consider fixing it first. Also seek a second opinion, because it could save you money and give you the leverage you need to negotiate a lower price.
Register today for the Faith & Finances Business Networking Breakfast and Credit Repair Workshop with Guest Speaker, Gail Perry-Mason! http://www.powerandpurpose2011.eventbrite.com/

Women What the Hell are You Thinking: An Inspirational Guide to Becoming A Virtuous Woman
Who can find a virtuous woman? Her price is far above rubies. Women are more precious than jewels. That's what the bible says. Yet, far too many women live their lives as though they are worthless.
Women What the Hell are You Thinking was written to provide women with the inspiration to get out of their present situations. "I have been a pregnant teenager and a single mother. I have lived from paycheck to paycheck and I have been in an abusive relationship. It wasn't until I took responsibility for my choices that I was able to make a change. Blaming others for your circumstances, (my husband is abusive, my boyfriend got me pregnant and left), are all only excuses for staying in the pit that is your life. I chose to forgive those that had mistreated me and I used those experiences to rise above my circumstances and persevere much like the biblical characters that I write about in the book."
It is Mrs. Donovan's hope that through this book women will see that their current circumstances don't have to be permanent. The book uses well learned life lessons as well as biblical principles to provide women with tools that can eventually propel them up and out of hopelessness, fear, and dismay.

Wednesday's Regaining the Power of the Dollar
Continuing the same behavior and expecting different results is probably not the best plan. In fact, many people say that’s the definition of insanity. Improving your financial situation is all about education first, but most importantly, developing good money habits that keep you on the road to success.

Surviving with Power and Purpose
Many African American women have had experiences of being stereotyped or judged based on the preconceived notions of service providers. Because of the assumptions of the provider, a service or product that is available is not accepted or accessed. This book seeks to show through the experience of a survivor, how it feels to be in need of a service yet unable to attain it. This book is about being able to walk side by side with survivors of color. The goal is to reduce the barriers faced by women of color by providing a framework for understanding the role of culture in domestic and sexual violence.
* ~ * ~ *
"Chéree Thomas is deeply committed and passionate to end violence against women. She is a true advocate who really gets the human rights quality of empowerment advocacy."
Paula Callen, MCADSV Director of Program Services and Building the Safety Net Project
"It is far beyond the time that women of color have our voices heard around the service provision and understanding of our issues regarding domestic and sexual violence. Chéree Thomas has a clear vision and innovative ideas for women of color leadership in this work. I know this book will serve as a guide to those of us who continue to advocate for women of color who have had to manage, navigate and process the pain of being assaulted and will prove to have solutions to how women of color can heal."

Sabotaging Purpose with Comfort Zones
We all have within us a self-regulating, self-balancing scale that keeps our emotions perfectly balanced as far as the amount of emotion we allow ourselves to feel. Each of us has a limit to the extreme of which we will allow ourselves to feel ups and downs emotionally. The up is always exactly the same amount of emotion as the down. If we could weigh the emotions we feel, then we could say that we allow ourselves to feel only ten pounds of fear. This also means that we will allow ourselves to feel only ten pounds of love. No more. No less.
When we are taken out of our comfort zone on the feel-good side of the balance scales, our subconscious mind knows that this means that we will also be taken out of our comfort zone on the feel-bad side. This is the self-balancing scale at work. We don't want to feel bad emotions that are more intense that we have become accustomed to, so we self-medicate and self-regulate ourselves back into the safety of our emotional comfort zone.
This is where we see our weight loss plans fail, our exercise programs fall apart, our new found strengths scare us into retreating back to our emotional comfort zone. Sabotage of a new exercise program is a form of self-medication. It allows us to move back into our old familiar emotional comfort zone. We don't want to feel too good because if we feel too good then we know that feeling too bad is lurking around the corner.
Don't sabotage your purpose staying in a comfort zone... BREAK THE BARRIER, and LEAP IN TO YOUR DESTINY!

The Power of Asking... Start Your Week in Power and Purpose ~ Monday at 7am (EST)!
Asking is the simplest thing to do. It is about the first thing we learn to do. Nobody can say "I'm so weak that I don't know how to ask." The weaker we are, the better we are at asking. It is only when we become too clever or too proud that we do not know how to ask. We need not fear our lack of eloquence because we are not approaching an English teacher. Neither need we fear that we are not intelligent enough to remember all that we are to ask because we are not approaching a scholar. Help is given to the needy, not to those who are too able.
A Christian's life should be one of asking (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Nothing is too small to ask from the God who created tiny atoms, or too big to ask from the God who created the universe. We must not postpone prayer till we feel more worthy to do so because we will never be worthy enough to ask from God. We ask, not because we are worthy but because Jesus has invited us to ask and ask and ask.

Faithful, Focused and Fearless
Faith is needed in facing life, trials, and setbacks.
If you could know the truth about successful people, the fact is they failed many more times than they succeeded. They learned from their failures, they found different ways to accomplish their goals, they didn’t give up when it would be easy to.
The same applies to the many victorious Christians that became "pillars of faith". They had their moments of doubt, their moments of discouragement’s, their many setbacks. There key is to never give up on God and move closer to him with faith.
Even during our moments of doubt, the effort and discipline of faith allows us to grow.
Rev. Dr. Browning s newest book will inspire your spirit, calm your fears, and help you live a life that is empowered by faith. Her lessons provide the guidance you need to live your life to God s honor and glory, and to reap the benefits of his promises to you. --Dr. Dorothy I. Height, Chair/President Emeritus, National Council of Negro Women
There comes a time when everyone must fight for their future. Dr. Jo Ann Browning presents a prolific power tool to help all of us fight the good fight of faith - and win! This is a must read. --Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie

Powerful Prayer Plan
Seek God’s Prayer Plan for Your Life!
There are many levels of prayer. God knows exactly where each of us are in our prayer life and our knowledge and understanding of prayer.
He will honor even the most pitiful prayer a person offers in faith, if that is all they know to do. But He will not let us stay at that level. He wants us to move to greater levels of understanding, faith, and power.
1. Prayer is a vital key that connects us with our Heavenly Father.
2. Prayer is both an incredible privilege and an awesome responsibility. It can move the hand of God in situations where there is no other hope.
3. Biblical prayer is crying to God out of the depths; it is the pouring out of the soul before God.

The Discovery
We all follow our purpose in some way, whether we know it or not. If we are not clear on that purpose, the path can be difficult and erratic. If we know our purpose, we can live it lightly and happily. It becomes a question, not of deciding or creating a purpose, it is a matter of discovering your purpose. ~Frederick Pearce

Dare to Be Yourself.. Make History on Purpose!
In 2004, Shirley Chisholm said about herself, "I want history to remember me not just as the first black woman to be elected to Congress, not as the first black woman to have made a bid for the presidency of the United States, but as a black woman who lived in the 20th century and dared to be herself."
Shirley Chisholm was born in New York but spent seven of her early years growing up in Barbados with her grandmother. She returned to New York and her parents in time to study at Brooklyn College. She met Eleanor Roosevelt when she was 14, and took to heart Mrs. Roosevelt's advice: "don't let anybody stand in your way."
In 1971, Shirley Chisholm was a founding member of the National Women's Political Caucus.
When she ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 1972, she knew that she could not win the nomination, but she nevertheless wanted to raise issues she felt were important. She was the first black and the first woman to run for president.
